June 25, 2014 Immediate Release: STATEMENT BY THE WORLD CUP ACCOUNTABILITY COALITION Members of the World Cup Accountability Coalition is calling on the government of President John Dramani Mahama to as matter urgency commission a truly independent and objective body to investigate how monies were spent both in Ghana and in Brasil in the ongoing FIFA Football campaign. This has become necessary because disturbing information we are receiving from Brasil indicates that the players have revolted against the next match with Portugal due to a broken financial commitment by the sports ministry. In the midst of this protest, we are reliably informed that the minister has not stepped foot at the Black Stars camp and shifted base to Natal where angry Ghanaian Soccer Fans are based. Among other questions we demand answers to in the immediate are: 1) Where is the sports minister now? 2) What agreement did the ministry have with the team before their training session in Holland? 3) Where did he promise to pay the Black Stars Team their appearance team? 4) Why is the appearance fee still not in Brasil as of now? 5) We demand names of the alleged travel and tour companies that handled the Brasil trip. 6) Why our soccer fans and ambassadors were alike left stranded to sleep on the bare floor at the airport? 7) Why was the soccer fans not served breakfast since they arrived in Brasil? We believe an immediate presidential enquiry in the matters arising in Brasil will be to the benefit of mother Ghana. As a coalition, we have a conviction that His Excellency the president, John Dramani Mahama is not corrupt and cannot be corrupted. But we also believe practices by some appointees such as his sports minister, if go unchecked will fuel public misconception that the government is characterized by corrupt practices which we know is not the case. The only way His Excellency can exonerate his government of the rots going on in Brasil is by ensuring swift investigations into the matters and ensuring that sanctions are applied where necessary.
