June 26, 2013 Luke 14:21 In Jesus story he gives them an unexpected twist. He tells them that the kingdom of heaven is open to everyone. No one is ‘in’ because they are the ‘right’ people. God chooses, pursues and welcomes people others shun, look down on, and consider unacceptable. The kingdom of heaven isn’t about the ‘beautiful’ people. It’s full of has beens, never was-es, failures, and losers. In fact those who think they qualify to get in, probably won’t enter, because they assume they can show up any time they want and think they will be welcomed. It’s those who know they have no chance of being chosen and invited to any heavenly party, that will quickly respond and enjoy the benefits and blessings of the kingdom of heaven. This should cause us ‘Christians’ to give sober thought as to which group we are in. Probably a good test is to ask ourselves, "Am I quick to respond to every invitation of Abba to stop and party with him throughout my day? Or do I, because I think I am ‘in,’ ignore most of his invitations and carry on with my daily business?"
