June 29 Minding Your Thoughts Nehemiah 5:19 Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people. If pressed could you pray this same prayer? Nehemiah was at a place wherein he needed God’s intervention, leadership, protection, and power so he reminded the Lord of the good that he had performed on behalf of God’s people. Could you? I know, I know, there are those who would remind me that there is none good, no not one (Romans 3:12). In relation to the goodness and perfectness of God this is true, for Jesus said, “there is none good but one, that is, God” (Mark 10:18). When it comes to the goodness of God no person is equal, but that does not mean that we cannot do good. 3 John 1:11 proves this, “He that doeth good is of God:” Too many times it is convenient to use the fact that we are not perfect as an excuse for not doing the good we should do. Nehemiah was not part of this type of thinking, he asked Almighty God to think upon him for the good he had performed. Nehemiah’s prayer was bold. It was as bold as Nehemiah was bold. Imagine asking God to think upon you based upon the good you have done for His cause. The best advice from this simple verse is to do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10) then when you need God’s intervention, leadership, protection, and power you too can pray, “Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done…” May the Lord Bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
