June 29th, 2014. STIMULATE YOUR SPIRIT For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14 The way to live a life inwardly applying the cross is by stimulating your spirit. This is the way to renew the vision of your sonship continuously in order to execute the cross over your self. This is exactly what Paul is saying in Romans 8. Let us consider verses 13- 15 together, looking first at their structure. Verse 13 is the result of verse 14. That is, the putting to death of the practices of our body is the result of the leading of the Spirit. Verses 14- 17 actually reveal to us what precedes the putting to death in verse 13. Paul says in verses 14- 15, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received a spirit of sonship in which we cry out, Abba, Father. In our experience verse 15 brings in verse 13. Verse 15 is the stimulation of our spirit by crying, Abba, Father. You just consider-- we have received a spirit of sonship in which we cry, Abba, Father. And when we do something with our spirit, immediately the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (v. 16). By the stimulation of your spirit you freshly renew the vision of who you are. Because this is a continuous experience, Paul uses present- tense verbs to describe it. We are crying Abba, Father, and the Spirit Himself is witnessing with our spirit (vv. 15- 16). Notice, the witness is that we are the children of God. And then in verse 17 Paul quickly adds, And if children, then heirs-- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified with Him. This is vision coming to you instantly when you stimulate your spirit. And it is vision with a consciousness-- What am I doing here arguing? What am I doing vindicating myself? What am I doing living out this flesh again? What am I doing here? O Lord Jesus! Abba, Father! You begin to activate your spirit and get out of your reasoning mind and your fickle emotions. As you cry Abba! Father! out of that crying comes the sensation that you are a child of God. Then from that initial sensation comes a deeper sensation that you are an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ. The vision of Gods economy over your life rises within you simply by stimulating your spirit to have contact with God. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God [Romans 8:14]. For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, etc. This is a confirmation of what has immediately preceded; for he teaches us, that those only are deemed the sons of God who are ruled by his Spirit; for by this mark God acknowledges them as his own people. Thus the empty boasting of hyp¡crites is taken away, who without any reason assume the title; and the faithful are thus encouraged with unhesitating confidence to expect salvation. The import of the whole is this — all those are the sons of God who are led by Gods Spirit; all the sons of God are heirs of eternal life: then all who are led by Gods Spirit ought to feel assured of eternal life. But the middle term or assumption is omitted, for it was indubitable. But it is right to observe, that the working of the Spirit is various:for there is that which is universal, by which all creatures are sustained and preserved; there is that also which is peculiar to men, and varying in its character: but what he means here is sanctification, with which the Lord favours none but his own elect, and by which he separates them for sons to himself. June 29 MORNING His commandments are not grievous. This is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life.-- Whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. My yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.-- If ye love me, keep my commandments.-- He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Happy [is] the man [that] findeth wisdom, and the man [that] getteth understanding.-- Her ways [are] ways of pleasantness, and all her paths [are] peace.-- Great peace have they which love thy law:and nothing shall offend them.-- I delight in the law of God after the inward man. This is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another.-- Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] the fulfilling of the law. 1 JOHN 5:3. Jn 6:40-- 1 Jn 3:22. Mt 11:30.-- Jn 14:15, 21. Pr 3:13, 17.-- Ps 119:165.-- Ro 7:22. 1 Jn 3:23.-- Ro 13:10. June 29 EVENING Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins.-- I, [even] I, [am] he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.-- Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.-- I will remember their sin no more.-- Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Thou hast in love to my soul [delivered it] from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.-- Who [is] a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity?... he retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth [in] mercy.-- Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. PSA 25:7. Is 44:22.-- Is 43:25.-- Is 1:18.-- Je 31:34.-- Mi 7:19. Is 38:17.-- Mi 7:18.-- Re 1:5.
