June 4th, 2014 Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) From the Desk of Virginia Albert Poyotte CUT General Secretary /Treasurer Tribute to the late Dr. Nadine Scott The seventy two thousand (72,000) members of the Caribbean Union of Teachers join the JTA and the family and friends of Dr. Nadine Scott in the celebration of an outstanding educator in Jamaica, the Caribbean and at the international level. The teaching profession benefited tremendously from the gift of live given to Nadine. She was well known among the educators in the Caribbean and she will surely be missed. Many of the leaders in the teachers’ unions in the Caribbean from Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Suriname, British Virgin Islands, The Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Martinique, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts, Guadeloupe, St. Croix, St. Lucia. St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and St. Maarten remember you as remarkable, soft spoken and firm individual. Your contribution to the improvement in the quality of life for the Jamaican people in particular has far reaching effect and we trust that your departure will serve as an inspiration to the young people in the Caribbean. We will treat you as a role model and remain inspired and strive for the best because life is too short for us to remain idle. In the book Power of the Psalms I quote, “I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it; for I shall not pass this way again”. The educators in Jamaica, the Caribbean and in Education International take comfort in that you have passed in this world only once and you did the good things that were necessary for all the persons you met. You did not defer or postpone what you had to do because you will not have the chance to pas and do it again. Nadine you asked the Lord, What profit is there in your blood when you go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise the? Shall it declare thy truth? (Psalm 30 verse 9). Your departure has left a void in the teaching profession but you will smile to see all of us who are left behind will continue the work you have started. Your life was full of fun, laughter and excitement. Let is celebrate the wonderful gift of your life. A job on earth was well done. Your have just reported for the new job the Lord has identified for you in heaven. Nadine please rest in peace as the Caribbean Union of Teachers family extends sympathy to your family and friends in Jamaica.
