June 6, 2013 Matthew Waxman has shown a comparatively excellent profile throughout his professional poker career, but has never added a WSOP gold bracelet to his record. This year’s World Series of Poker, though, Waxman has finally achieved just that. The Florida-based poker player has finally achieved his very first gold bracelet, along with over $300,000 in winnings, after coming on top in Event 7 of the 2013 WSOP, a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament. It might be one of the hardest poker battles for Waxman’s career, though, as he and his opponent, previous bracelet winner Eric Baldwin, engaged in a heated heads-up match that spans six hours and 200 hands. Both players took turns in getting the chip advantage during the course of the match, and just when it seems one was gaining the upper hand, the opposing player would somehow fight his way back and regain the advantage. After a seemingly seesaw-like match, In the end, it was Waxman who finally secured the victory. Waxman’s accomplishments during his poker tenure include a win last 2008, at the Circuit Main Event in Atlanta City, as well as being able to participate in three separate WSOP final tables. Today, however, after some close calls in the past, he emerged the victor in one of the toughest final tables in recent WSOP history so far, finally adding a gold bracelet to his magnificent poker career, and pushes his total poker tournament earnings to an impressive $2.5 million. The $1,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament, the first single-entry event for this year’s WSOP, drew a total of 1,837 players and generated a $1,653,300 prize pool. It also garnered the most colorful final table participants of the summer so far, with two previous bracelet winners, several WSOP final tablists in the past, and even some of the best young players in the game, including Jason Koon (9th), previous bracelet winner Brent Hanks (5th), and three-time WSOP final tablist Amit Makhija (4th). Also, several notable pro poker players were among the top 198 players who also earned money in this tournament, including Jason Senti (163rd), Ari Engel (50th), Annette Obrestad (42nd), and Paul Wasicka (33rd).
