June 8, 2013 N. Chas. News Release involving EMS: Subject: Overnight collision sends firefighter, medic and five civilians to the hospital. Driver charged with From: "Sancic, Bianca" For Immediate Release: 0800 June 8, 2013 Firefighter, medic and five others sent to area hospitals after overnight crash on Ashley Phosphate Rd. North Charleston SC--- While on scene of a motor vehicle accident on Ashley Phosphate Rd. early this morning a firefighter, a Charleston County paramedic and four bystanders were struck by another vehicle that was driven through the scene. In all, five civilians the medic and firefighter were transported to area hospitals. North Charleston firefighters were called to the initial collision at 3940 Ashley Phosphate Rd. to assist with a two vehicle crash at 1:44 a.m. Upon arrival they assisted Charleston County EMS with patient care. The call for the second crash occurred at 2:01 a.m. The medic was treated and released overnight and the firefighter remains at MUSC. One additional firefighter was assessed and released from MUSC. The driver of the second vehicle was arrested by North Charleston Police and charged with DUI. No further information is available at this time.
