June: When it rains, it pours! Literally and figuratively last - TopicsExpress

June: When it rains, it pours! Literally and figuratively last night. What would complete your late night hospital admission more then a tornado warning at 5:45 am? Yes, a tornado warning announcement filled the hospital over and over again ordering all patients to follow tornado procedures which equals all patients being moved into the hallways. I am lucky, my child is small enough to be carried even with their pole, etc. but the staff was rushing like crazy moving all the bed bound patients, their equipment, including several with oxygen tanks into the hallways; only to be told once the last patient was finally out, that it was safe to go back to our rooms. Nothing like a tornado to end the night shift with! Grant and I had a long night last night, we did not make it into our room until 4 am and then waiting on all our blood products plus the tornado meant we did not go to sleep until 7 am. Thank the good Lord that for once, Grant stayed asleep until 10:15 so mommy got a whole 3 hour nap that was able to hold me the rest of the day. We found out today that Grants counts didnt just go down, they tanked harder and faster then they ever have before. The ER doctor was expecting to see Grant in horrible shape when we arrived, but he was still up at 1 am shooting spider webs at her! We are so thankful we did not know in a way how bad Grant was before today, if we had, he would not have been at the golf tournament on Sunday but in the hospital. We thought though that even with the low counts, we would just be in for one night, but by 4 am when we checked into our room, Grant had spiked a fever. By this afternoon we learned that the fever is most likely from an infection in one of his lines that they discovered. This means Grant is receiving round the clock antibiotics in hopes to treat the infection. We cannot leave the hospital until the cultures on his line are negative for 48 hours so we will be there the rest of this week most likely. The great news is that once Grant woke up this morning his attitude was so much better than it has been in over a week, despite the fever, infection and late night. Grant and I ventured out of our room and went to a Halloween party in the zone, visited the fish tank, and the train; Grant was laughing and being silly with all the nurses and eating well too. The fever has gone away and we pray it continues to stay at bay. Oswald Chambers tells us to live life with gracious uncertainty, we can be certain of God beside us, yet uncertain of what He will do next. We are continuously being reminded to live out the motto we gave this journey - one step at a time, one prayer at a time. Pray with us that the infection will respond to antibiotics, for the praise of our Spideys great attitude and playfulness despite how medical knowledge would expect him to be. Pray that we can continue to travel this journey with gracious uncertainty, one step at a time, one prayer at a time. #graceforgrant
