Junior camp, week 2 is over, and week 3 is a few hours away. This past week had so many awesome moments; I don’t know where to start. I guess I could start with saying my campers were pretty great. They were the typical 9-12 year old boy, but overall did very well. We had tons of fun, and learned a lot about God, most importantly. From the get-go we had fun. Starting off by me ordering a straight line across the room, saying “repeat after me”, “I will….brush my teeth, I will…take showers every night”, etc. I was pretty funny to me, and it got the point across, that we were going to exercise hygiene. It worked for the most part, lol. These campers were serious about some scripture memory as well. Through an act of God, there were all 13 of my campers on their beds, reading their bibles and memorizing scripture! It was great, but let’s just be honest, that lasted for a short while lol. A few of them just ate up the boot camp theme, so we were marching around everywhere, straight line and what not. One funny saying from a camper, “If you love the Lord hoop and holler!” hah. Cabin clean-up time was WAY better this week. We had a few guys that could really scrub them toilets. We had great “porch talk” as well. One boy wanted to know about “fruit” in a Christian’s life, and how to have it. It was neat to go over verses about fruit and what it looks like to have fruit. One good point to make in that situation is that, like fruit that you plant, the SEED is the most important part! You don’t wish an apple tree to sprout out of the ground, there is a seed first. As a believer, the seed (Jesus) has to be planted, in order for the fruit to come. A lot of people get that backwards unfortunately. Had a couple other porch talks explaining bible verses and how they applied to our lives. A few others wanted advice about how to not drift away from God, all were great talks. The whole time I’m going, “who am I to be talking to these guys?” God is really convicting me about the time that I spend with him. I can’t expect God to show me things, when I give him 15 minutes of my day. We get so busy with our daily routines that we forget the most important part of the day, our time with the LORD! I talk to these campers about it, and turn around and preach it to myself. There is no need for eloquent speech, or good speaking skills. I’ll tell the guys to “just talk to him like you’re talking to me”, and that’s so true! Just talk to him like you would your friend, and by that I mean don’t be scared to just relax and speak to the Lord. One thing that I tried to do this week in my quiet time was to just focus on Jesus, and how he lived. I get frustrated sometimes about trying to read scripture and get something out of it. I find myself jumping around to 10 different spots and not really getting to dive into one part of the scripture and really study it. So why not just try and emulate Jesus! Jesus Loved no matter what, and he loved everyone, even those who are not easy to love. Sometimes people rub you wrong, but it’s our duty as believers to love them anyway! So much easier said than done. I had the awesome opportunity and privilege to lead a boy to the Lord! You could just tell that the lord was drawing him, I’m so glad he does draw us!!! I remember that day when I finally let the Lord have rule over my life; he was drawing me before that though! The young boy realized he had no peace in his HEART about his salvation. I made SURE to talk him out of just saying a prayer, and expecting something to happen from that. The Lord knows our hearts! I was able to connect with him through my testimony, which was awesome. He prayed and asked the Lord to save him, and it was just awesome to be there hearing it! I had a camper give me a phone call because I gave him my number and address, and that was just cool to hear from him. I pray that God will use someone like me (a dirty, rotten, sinner, saved by grace) to help HIS kingdom. God is so good and is doing great things here at camp. I’m blessed to be chosen by God to be up here. Let’s not forget that we are just the vessels that God chooses to use! What a humbling fact. I have so much to say but probably couldn’t fit it all in here, but this should be fine.
