Junior triathlon development is taking off in a big way in the East Sepik Province. The Province which created the Sepik Iron Man event (11 years this year), has one elite club, the Wewak Triathlon Club, which is the main club that produces athletes for the PNG Triathlon development squad. To date, the club has produced 4 athletes who have represented PNG in 3 Pacific Islands Triathlon & Cycling Championships (Fiji, Port Moresby and Guam), the 2013 ITU Grand Finals in London, UK; National Triathlon Championships in Port Moresby since 2010; New Zealand High Schools Triathlon Championships; and now the Commonwealth Games in Scotland (July). The Wewak junior development squad, which comprises of 130 kids, is the feeder club for the Wewak Triathlon Club. Well done Gilbert Sarry, Morah Sandu, Lynette and Joey Togirapah Ikau and your team in creating this band of future PNG representative triathletes!
