Jury duty at the US Eighth district court in Las Vegas - TopicsExpress

Jury duty at the US Eighth district court in Las Vegas yesterday: I went to report for Jury Duty - here is what I noticed: After learning how it works - (they take small groups of about 40 people as panels up to a courtroom, where the judge, and defense / prosecutorial attorneys select / choose the jury) - all well and good I noticed that the first group of people - a panel of about 15 people - were excused - this group was 9-10 african americans - and the rest (4-5) were caucasian / hispanic / asian - - they were excused / dismissed - - it caught my attention because I was sitting in the front row - and saw this group and thought wow - there are alot of african american people here - and then I turned around to look at the people in the room - and what i noticed is that the remainder of the room (about 250-275 people) were predominantly caucasian / hispanic / asian - and I did a count - and there were about 10 - 20% african american remaining (approximately) - seems like they dismissed alot of people that were african american right away . . . this led me to believe that the court jury selection process is manipulated by the US district court BEFORE panels are even sent up to be vetted - meaning the attorneys get to choose from that panel - and it looked to me that they disproportionately dismissed or excused alot of people of ONE race - so there were less african american people in these panels for jury selection - to choose from. this is a manipulative process - the US eighth district court jury selection process is quite easily controlled by the staff, judges, and personnel - so that if a panel (group of people to select a jury from) is sent to a court room for selection process - it could already be pre-determined or set up to be skewed by demographics - maybe even made to order ??? made me sick to my stomach to realize that (perhaps) if a judge wants a group of people to be of any one race, or gender - that judge could just have a panel kind of made to order when they request a group of people as a panel to choose the jury from so much for a right to a fair trial - that room had a group of about 300 people - and if 20% were african american in the whole group - then each panel should have at least 2 african american people in each group of 10!!! do the math!! (or did they take learning percentages out of the grade school curriculum?) the US District Court in Las Vegas (in my opinion) is being deceitful and dishonest and it seems to be rigging the panels skewing them one way or the other depending upon which court they go to - it is all supposed to be JURY OF YOUR PEERS - - and a mix of people that reflects an accurate mix of the population which you will not find in Las Vegas. Additionally - Mariah Witt, the Jury commissioner (who dresses quite nicely) stated that the cafe was located in the north west of the building - she must have been a victim of the clark county school district - (and does not know her directions) as the cafe is in the north east corner of the building - the sun rises in the east!!! This was my first experience with jury duty - has anyone else experienced jury duty here in las vegas? was it any different than mine??
