“Just 10 More Minutes” – Good from Unwanted Journeys By Pastor Ron Luke 2:1-7 The unwanted journeys we take and our assurance God is with us was today’s message. That like Mary and Joseph took those journeys they did not want, like Joseph when sold into slavery by his brothers, like Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego and their walk in the furnace…we take journeys we do not want to take. We spoke about those journeys and how the Lord is always with us when we take these unwanted trips. He would not send us on these journeys alone, without His guidance, without His presence. To continue that thought, God also uses those unwanted journeys to make us stronger, to deepen our faith, to make our understanding of Him and His purpose clearer for us. We most often turn to God when we are on journeys we do not want to take. We drift during good times, we stray when life is going well and we don’t spend the time with our Lord as we should. Our faith weakens and we lose focus on what is most important…a relationship with God. When those tough journeys arrive, the first we turn to then for help, for support, for strength is God. And He uses these journeys to deepen our faith and bring us back to Him. With Job, God strengthened his faith through trial, with Joseph we see him rise up to save Egypt from famine after his difficult journey of slavery and prison, with Mary’s unwanted journey she delivers a savior and the salvation of all mankind. How is God using your unwanted journey? Is He tempering you? Preparing you for something bigger? Something great in His name? We need to understand that sometime our unwanted journeys are the path to doing something great in God’s name. Amen.
