Just 5 more minutes mommy! Ever since the dawn of my motherhood days bedtime has been somewhat of a much anticipated vacation of bliss. The kids would go to bed and I would have that me time I had waited all day for. Sometimes I would spend it catching up with an old friend. Spend time alone with the hubs or perhaps just breathe in the beautiful sound of silence. Every night it was the same begging and pleading. Please mommy just five more minutes! That plea was always followed by heartfelt promises to be good, be quiet, the list goes on and on. Sometimes I would cave and allow the desperate children their time and others I would be the wicked mother and make them trot off to bed. Each night we would sing the same made up tune: you need to go to night night town. Sleep with the angels, swing from the trees. Fly with the birds and buzz with the bees. My how time flys. I havent sing that song with the girls in years. Sometimes Ill still sing it to them and I get the crazy eye from them. Then along came Ryker.... I now find myself begging for 5 more minutes. Please ryker slow down. Lets spend extra time in the tub, stretch out the time getting our Jammies on. Just let me breathe you in son. Perhaps it is because we are working on borrowed time, but I dread bed time for him. Every night I ask myself the same questions... Did we spend enough time together today. Did I make you laugh enough? Can I steal a few more kisses? Did I let you know, I mean really know, that I love and adore you today. Please Ryker dont be tired yet. Can I have 5 more minutes. Eventually I cave and carry him off to bed singing the bed time song and giving him my daily reminder of how much I thank god for another day with him. How I prayed my whole life for him. Like that, my 5 minutes are up and I have to wait until tomorrow to see his smile again. Tonight be sure to steal 5 more minutes because all too fast we as parents become the ones begging for more time.
