Just Ask JDI... justaskjdi.net Q. You seem to buy a lot of coordinated advertising aimed at New Brunswickers. Why so much advertising--what are you trying to make us believe? Asked on September 20, 2014 at 6:40pm A. Hi there - Youre right. We have coordinated, highly visible campaigns just about everywhere you look in New Brunswick. We focus on subjects that New Brunswickers consider important, including jobs and forest conservation. We focus on those subjects not only because they are important, but also because they are ones about which we need you to believe OUR narrative, and not the evidence put forth by scientists, journalists, economists, and others. Weve covered a few of the false narratives JD Irving spins about jobs and forest conservation (here: justaskjdi.net/2014/09/q_7.html and here: justaskjdi.net/2014/09/q_38.html ). Another example of the truth undercutting our PR images of smiling people and jaunty slogans is how we got the highest level of the Government of New Brunswick to give us special permission to export thousands of cubic metres of Crown Forest timber out of New Brunswick in 2014. We cut Crown Forest at incredibly low cost to us, and shipped it out of province to ensure maximum profit for JD Irving--and as few related jobs as possible for New Brunswick. But it doesnt serve JD Irving for anyone to know very much about that. So, like the way our PR campaigns are unrelated to objective facts, we had one of our spokespeople Mary Keith explain that, In order to maintain our commitment to local purchase wood and respect inventory levels, from time to time JDI exports wood to other jurisdictions. Thats right, this had nothing to do with cashing in as quickly as possible on the cheap New Brunswick wood we so zealously cut. It was mostly about maintaining JDIs commitment to local purchase wood. Frankly, sometimes we cant believe how good the people of New Brunswick are to us. So we think you deserve to see happy pictures of smiling employees accompanied by meaningless but upbeat slogans such as More opportunity...better communities, and Planting trees is just part of it. Admit it--youd rather see those, than photos of natural habitats decimated by our clear cuts, statistics about how few jobs we create for the forest allocation were given, and news stories about all the special gifts the Province of New Brunswick gives to one of the provinces wealthiest organizations. And since wed rather you see what we want you to see, were in agreement!
