Just Fervently Askin’ For……….. I am growing older and will soon be old. As I do....... 1. I ask to maintain the wisdom to keep me from becoming too talkative, and especially from the unfortunate habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject and at every opportunity. 2. Keep me from the idea that I must straighten out other peoples affairs (including my children). You know, so many of us thank that with our vast experience and wisdom, it would be a pity not to let everybody partake of it. 3. Also, keep me from the recital of endless details; just give me ability to get to the point. 4. Grant me the patience to listen to the complaints of others; help me to endure them with love. But seal my lips on my own aches and pains -- they increase with the increasing years and my inclination to recount them is also increasing. 5. I do not ask for improved memory, just for a little more humility and less self-assurance when my own memory doesnt agree with that of others. Teach me the lesson that occasionally I just might be wrong. Help me always to remember that a harsh old person is one of the devils masterpieces. 6. Make me sympathetic and helpful but not bossy. Allow me to discover merits where I had not expected them, and talents in people whom I had not thought possessed any…… Just one thought; A man should never be ashamed to own up that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying in other words that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.” Just Sayin..........
