Just In: The General Manager of Clear Channel Media - owners of Island 98.5 FM, Mr. Chuck Cotton, sent this email to me: Robert; Our company and our personnel do not condone the type of comments made by our air talent last Friday. We are deeply apologetic to the Micronesian community and regret this behavior. The individual responsible has been suspended and is also being counseled on sensitivity issues of this nature. We plan to air an on air apology this week. Were it not for the long holiday weekend our response would have been swifter. Please do not judge our stations or our personnel as accepting of this behavior, we are disgusted with this isolated incident and will not tolerate such insensitive behavior. We are very supportive of the community and work very hard to raise money for those in need, especially during times of crisis such as the Tsunamis in the Pacific and in Japan. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to call me on my direct line 550-9213. Mahalo nui loa, Chuck Cotton Vice President/General Manager The Island 98.5 Operations Manager, Mr. Jamie Hyatt, just sent this message: Robert: We are in the process of addressing this and plan to issue an apology soon. Undoubtedly, our personnel showed a lack of sensitivity and understanding of the Micronesian people. We are counseling our air staff to be more understanding of various cultures and stop ignorant comments in the interest of humor. We deeply regret this error in judgment and apologize. It is our sincere desire that you and those that were offended will accept our apology. Thanks, Jamie Hyatt Operations Manager Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Honolulu, Hawaii ------------------------------------------------------ Thank you to both Mr. Cotton and Mr. Hyatt for such a quick response...
