Just Passing Through 2 Cor. 4:17-18, “For our light - TopicsExpress

Just Passing Through 2 Cor. 4:17-18, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things that are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” We are all on an earthly journey, traveling life’s road from birth to death. But it doesn’t end here on earth with our physical death; we are spiritual beings destined for eternity. Based on the choices we make on this temporary journey, we will either find heaven or hell as our eternal destination. Have you ever felt that you are a stranger in this world; a pilgrim just passing through from one place to another; feeling that there must be more to life than this? When I accompanied my son on a mission trip to Honduras, we were instructed to read a book about our return to the U.S.A. The central theme was that we would not be the same when we returned. We would be disappointed with what we saw when we came home. I thought the message was all wrong. But, when I returned from that mission trip and looked around, I was disappointed with what I saw. We had left a land of great needs and very few complaints. The people in Honduras were content to make the best of their situation. Back home I found that there were fewer needs, but many more complaints, and widespread attitudes of complacency. I was serving on the board of Habitat for Humanity at the time, and there was a woman complaining because construction of her new house was going to be delayed for a couple of months. She was going to have a new home basically at no expense. I thought about the homes of people in Honduras. It made me wonder if I were in the wrong place. Is this really my home? Is our focus on the here and now, on what the world has to show us? The verse from 1st Corinthians tells us that our afflictions are light and temporary. We need to keep our eyes on the prize – our eternal home with God. Scriptural References: 1 Cor. 4:17-18; Acts 9:3-5; Heb. 11:8-16; 1 John 2: 15-17; 4:5-6
