Just Sayin Since being diagnosed with a 2nd cancer March of 2013 I have met 100s of cancer patients - every walk of life ethnically, financially, intellectually, you name it Ive met them or at least most kinds of them and all different kinds of diagnosis as well....and I have learned about how people like or do not like to speak about it. This is a HUGELY private and individual decision. it is a HUGELY difficult decision also. So I am just going to say it as I experienced it for myself.....be patient, dont press, if you want to nudge because you cant help yourself...nudge gently...we dont like to hear doom and gloom in anyones voice or the words, Im so sorry - much prefer to hear that you are there for us and really love to lend an ear, tell a great joke, engage us in discussion - keep us motivated and involved in anything and everything we love and cherish. And if we fall silent and dont respond initially, or maybe even ever - its ok with you and you understand when we remain silent. Dont be frustrated as we dont want to make anyone else feel any kind of pain because of us. When I heard the words, You have 6 months, maybe 1 year to live, my first reaction was, OMG how am I ever going to tell anyone this? I was so worried about making people upset....crazy stuff folks. And then everything changed around in the weeks and months following because someone on my team took that extra look......Cancer changes quickly, slowly, upside down, sideways and all around - just the same for people who get it. I just wanted to put this out there when you are thinking about our wonderful friend in New Hampshire...
