Just To Let Everyone Know Who Is Planning A Visit To Gatlinburg Or The Smokies After October 31st.. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail will close for the season on the evening of October 31, 2014 and will remain closed until April 30, 2015 to replace eight bridges along the roadway. The road will be closed to all public using including hiking and biking. This is a popular motor vehicle road that takes you on a loop tour just inside the Smokies. It is also a popular route to see the lower elevation Fall colors and also to reach trail access to Grotto Falls and several other hiking trails. You can access the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail by turning off the main parkway in Gatlinburg, TN at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail Road to the Cherokee Orchard entrance to the national park. Just beyond the Rainbow Falls trailhead you have the option of taking the one-way Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Buses, trailers, and motor homes are not permitted on the motor nature trail.
