My mother and father were both excellent, awesome cooks. My mother during the Confederation of Newfoundland joining Canada in 1938 was one of the maids that was chosen to serve King George and the Queen Mother during the Confederation Celebrations. She lived during the Great Depression and raised 3 children during the hard times when jobs were scarce in St. Johns Newfoundland. She raised 7 children. 4 boys and 3 girls and ran a restaurant at the same time and had 6 to 8 boarders that lived with us that she fed and took care of as well along with us 6 kids at that time in her life in 1966. Her hard work and successful owner of 5 restaurants in her lifetime is a remarkable example of success. All us 7 kids never had to worry about a job because my mom and dad provided that for us and taught us the true values of business operations. My parents are both gone now. My mom just passed away on Oct 8th, 2012 at the age of 94 and she still cooked and lived at home till the last week of her life when she was hospitalized with Lukemia. I lived with her for the last 7 years of her life and during that time I really got to know my mother and her remarkable memory of the past. She wrote a journal of her life and also another journal about her last trip out west to British Columbia that she took with my sister at age 92 sleeping on a foam mattress in the back of a SUV all the way out west from Ontario. She was truly an adventurer, full of energy, and never stopped living life to the fullest! She was truly an inspiration.
