Just a few musings about dentistry after 41 years of serving patients. We have come full circle , we have raced to the bottom, right back to where we were when I started. Dentistry is fully circled by insurance, they have romanced dentist by having them build their practice around reimbursement rates rather than fee for service. I have listened to how delta dental will only pay 1200 dollars a crown , 1500 if it is a screw retained implant 2200 if it is crown and an abutment. The funny thing really is if you are a patient and you expect your insurance to provide you with excellent care forget about it. If you are a dentist and you think delta is done tightening the noose around your economic neck you are naive.We as dental technicians need to go straight to the public and help them understand how to find good fee for service dentist. We need to publicly join the fight 50% of the crowns are made outside the USA and you are not even asked can i buy a 29 dollar crown from Vietnam , yes patients i said 29 dollar , that will fit the reimbursement rate of 1200 dollars. So this is what is going on , this is what happens to you when you want something for nothing. Here are a few pictures of what your insurance wont pay for , you unless you make a slave out of your dental technician. So if you are a patient beware , if you are lab help our good partners , get out in public and share who we are and what we do , because dental insurance is only about non use , reimbursement rates and nothing to do with your good dental care. Dr. Lloyd Miller said best if you technicians dont follow Malcom X example and stand up for yourselves you will be extinct.
