Just a little something on the tides before the evenings get lighter and warmer. Im a pilot on the Thames and live on sheppey. I have noticed that due to the huge amount of water still pouring into the Thames and Medway further up river, the tides are considerably different than normal. I was on a ship last night and HW was at 2150 but the Ebb tide had already started to make its way out before this time. Further up river I have noticed that the tides have been turning an hour before HW. What does this mean? On the surface the tide would appear to be going out but reality is that the river is still rising. This Phenomena has seen tide heights significantly higher than predicted (nothing of concern though!) made more apparent when there is Low pressure and a NEly Wind. Just have an open mind when walking around the Minster Cliff area or if paddling in a small dinghy. Enjoy the water and stay safe.
