Just a little update on Altaneiro for people who are interested. On arrival he was very well behaved and appeared well. He has been in quarantine to ensure any bugs and little friends didnt pass to my immaculate horses (Im only slightly obsessed with their health!) He drank and ate well but he wasnt sure about the sloppy feeds - in fact he took one look at the first bucket and booted it everywhere! He did however love feeds with a chaff base. He now has top spec chopped unmollassed alfalfa added to his feed of calm and condition and fast fibre and now likes food very much. About a week after he arrived he developed the much mentioned illness the snot was the greenest Ive ever seen in 30 odd years of horse ownership and it effected his breathing - he was a little depressed but as he is a very chilled out polite chap it didnt make a massive difference. He started a course of antibiotics which after a week had cleared it up completely and luckily he hasnt developed a cough. He was very unfortunate to develop a horrid abscess between chin and jaw bone - so he got to meet the vet again! Thankfully there seemed to be no obvious cause and it has cleared up, he just about allowed the farrier to do his front feet and the dentist looked at his teeth and confirmed he has two massive wolf teeth to be removed. So hes in for a rough ride as it will be done the same time as his castration. He will remain in quarantine for a few more weeks. He is such a sweet horse and once the abscess had burst his appetite went through the roof - he was finally wormed last night and he was absolutely as good as gold about it - he has had a jab for his lice and it made an immediate difference. Two people have been kind enough to donate or lend rugs for him as hes so weedy he doesnt fill up my rugs and they all hang around his neck! He could probably do with a 56 but I refuse to buy one on the grounds he will not fit it when fully grown. The dentist aged him at rising 4 so he has plenty of time. He is genuinely one of the most calm horses ever, he waits politely to go out. Doesnt care if hes left in or put in alone - I hope that doesnt change once he lives with mine - but I dont expect I will be that lucky! Anyway he is a super little chap who as you will see from the photos likes to wallow in mud at every opportunity!
