Just a quick reminder that the idea that affirmative action is unfair because it privileges minorities over non-minorities who might have otherwise been accepted into a university is indeed a racist assertion as it assumes a reality where the most qualified minority applicant is *always* less qualified than the least-qualified non-minority applicant. EX. There are 100 spots open in a university. 20 are designated as spots to maintain (a gesture at) diversity through affirmative action. A proponent of the idea that Affirmative Action is unfair is essentially saying that the 81st ranked non-minority applicant, is inherently more qualified than the first 20 ranked minority applications (i.e. the 81st applicant would have gotten in if it werent for the Affirmative action spots.) When confronted with the reality that universities without affirmative action historically suffered from low(er) diversity one could draw two conclusions: 1) there is something wrong with the system that is favoring non-minority students over minority students. 2) The system is meritocratic and it is simply that non-minority students tend to be inherently more qualified than minority students. (2) will always be a racist assertion. God bless.
