Just a quick update ... Today marks the beginning of medical leave, which of course sponsors a host of mixed emotions. As my cousin Susan pointed out, Bills former quarterback Jim Kelly is using social media to broadcast the message that chemo and radiation are laying him low ... which I bet every cancer patient within his reach appreciates him admitting. I did my best to work through both of them (opting to take vacation time to fill in the hours I couldnt work, rather than the FMLA I could have --- my company has been good to me, ergo it seems only right I do that in return), but the accumulated effects have been more than I can surmount. And as I told our exec editor, when the time comes that I cant do justice to the people Im writing about, Ill duct-tape my keyboard. Done (metaphorically, anyhow). That also gives me room for the Other Big Challenge - to concentrate on gaining strength to take me through about a full-day surgery on May 28 at Roswell, followed by one or two weeks inpatient, then a week at friend Karen Wolfes customized B&B in the Buffalo area. Meanwhile, friend/brother Anderson Clark will live in my place, shepherding the four cats and one large dog - some of whom have been tendered through my husbands death in 2012 into my care. Then, ideally, home again with a feeding tube for about seven weeks. I already need a new wardrobe! So all this can only bode well for my body of the future! As I had hoped at the onset of this medical adventure, it has been a real spiritual journey as well as a learning experience in myriad other ways. I told our editor I want to write an addendum to the whole Caregiver package that ran at the end of last year, because now I know so much more ... So thanks, as always, for the prayers and support.
