Just a quick update on our artificial reef here on San Sebastian. For some reason the locals thought I built this reef for them to rape. They were netting, hand lining and spear fishing on it for a while. It took us quite some time to get the community leaders to keep their word, and tell their community members that this is a conservation area, and they are not to fish there at all. In response to their insistance to keep netting right over the reef, and prodding the reef with sticks to chase the fish out, we decided to add a few more things to it. We brought in a large tree, and placed it in such a way that the branches stick out of the water. This now make it impossible for the locals drag their nets over it. So that has been solved. It has been about a week since we last saw someone fish or spear on it, so I hope the community leaders spoke to them now. The amount of fish, and species are increasing almost by the day. It has become very clear to us that the fish are here, and they need a place to make their home. Every time we add something, more fish arrive, so we are going to make it BIG!! Amazing to note, is that we now have a large number of Parrot Fish too!! Enjoy the next few pictures.
