Just a reminder that all animals may carry disease causing bacteria such as Salmonella. These diseases are most likely to be a problem for you and your pets if the environment that your pet lives in is not kept clean and sanitary. Reptiles have a reputation of carrying Salmonella that is likely inflated, but they may be carriers of this disease. Some of the ways you can keep your reptiles free from Salmonella, as well as other disease causing bacteria include: * Keep cage clean. Pick up fecal material often. * Keep water clean including sterilization of water containers. * Feed healthy foods. This is especially true of insects. Buy insects from reliable vendors. The insects you feed should look and act healthy (active, eating) and should smell good. Insects are a common source of Salmonella and other disease causing bacteria. * Isolate sick animals from healthy ones and have them checked by a veterinarian. This may include a culture or test for Salmonella. cdc.gov/salmonella/cotham-04-14/index.html
