Just a thought: It is worrisome to see libertarians so frequently adopting the pose and rhetoric of the establishment. If we wish for the idea of Liberty to gain ground, we must imbue it with broad appeal. We do not do this by donning suits and bowties and flaunting our contempt for the poor. Some libertarians will pontificate endlessly about the minimum wage forcing people out of jobs, only to turn around and tell them to get jobs - like a halfwit parent, rather than an intelligent student of political economy. They will elaborate at length about zoning laws driving up the cost of housing and thus rent, only to accuse anyone unhappy with paying these highly inflated prices of greed and socialism. When people like Jim Allan smugly refer to a free market rally as “the only protest here today where people have had a shower in the past week,” there can no longer be any confusion as to why the counterculture views libertarianism as counter-revolutionary swill - it’s because so many of its foremost advocates proudly wear the uniform of counter-revolutionary swill. Down with smug, self-righteous, bourgeois libertarianism.
