Just about every workout plan will produce results if executed - TopicsExpress

Just about every workout plan will produce results if executed consistently. If a few key nutritional concepts are adhered to consistently, results are inevitable. Consistency is by far the most significant and crucial contributing factor to results. What does consistency mean however and why is it so elusive to maintain? Studies indicate that one hour of cardio exercise that elevates the heart rate to a level thats challenging five times per week is all that is required to burn a significant number of calories, increase aerobic capacity and stamina and hence significantly reduce our likelihood to suffer from type II diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, etc. Studies also indicate that there is a correlative relationship between lean tissue mass (muscle) and metabolic rate ( the number of calories our bodies burn daily). Combining cardio exercise consistently with strength and resistance training can put us in a caloric deficit initiating weight loss by slowly increasing metabolism and energy levels, as long as we apply some basic nutritional concepts that control our blood sugar levels and support metabolism, while avoiding drastic caloric deficiencies. Significant improvement in our health and fitness as a response to proper exercise and nutrition can be a slow process. The regulatory systems in our bodies will resist change and there are many factors, many out of our control, that will determine how long it will take to achieve the results we want. Hence our focus should be on consistency more so than on achieving short term results. If the goal is to maintain consistency over the span of our lifetimes, then we will inevitably see results at some point. The key to consistency is to avoid any exercise or nutrition practices that are not sustainable. We should consistently ask ourselves whether what were doing is sustainable over 10-30 years and set goals for consistency, not short term results.
