Just about everyone has seen or heard about the video of Obama - TopicsExpress

Just about everyone has seen or heard about the video of Obama saluting with a latte in his hand. For all who feel that this is something being blown out of proportion. I posted on a friends page about why this incident was not right. I found a really well written explanation of the salute. Please read...then tell anyone who has served or been injured or lost a loved one that the salute is nothing to get upset about.......... The salute is not simply an honor exchanged. It is a privileged gesture of respect and trust among military. Remember the salute is not only prescribed by regulation but is also recognition of each others commitment, abilities, and professionalism. The salute is widely misunderstood outside the military. Some consider it to be a gesture of servility since the junior extends a salute to the senior, but we know that it is quite the opposite. The salute is an expression that recognizes each other as a member of the profession of arms; that they have made a personal commitment of self-sacrifice to preserve our way of life. The fact that the junior extends the greeting first is merely a point of etiquette-a salute extended or returned makes the same statement. With that said....the issue isnt because it was Obama. The issue is as a veteran myself and a mother, a daughter, a aunt, a cousin, and a niece to other past and present veterans....I find it so disrespectful that our President could not take the added effort to remove the cup of coffee out of the hand he saluted with. It is just that simple.
