Just an observation on this sad day for our nation and valley . I was listening to the pundits on the radio talking about the disaster today that befell SpaceShipOne and the so called experts that are now rallying around the call to find fault and to belittle the program .The truth of the matter is people outside of the Aerospace test community have no clue about test flight programs and why there is always a present danger and failure . Testing ,the key word, not production flying but testing a craft to see if it will preform in a safe manner so when the time comes for citizen involvement they can do it with a high degree of confidence . Two Pilots took off today on a test flight not a commercial flight , they knew as does all test pilots of the risk and they went into their job with out a blind fold on .We hold the past and present Test Pilots in high esteem for they have earned our respect by risking their lives so that we may travel and fly in safety . We in the high desert understand this and looking at the street signs on Edwards is a constant reminder of the price men will pay to board an aircraft and arrive at a destination safely . Tune out the media rush to judge they have no clue, reach out to others that need to know and tell them that this is the price men will pay for the betterment of mankind . God speed brave pioneers your are what make our nation the best in the world ...
