Just an overview on the situation this morning: An 8-year-old boy was riding his bike with his friend in the back area of A1 Fleet Maintenance off of Crown Lane in Hagerstown around 10:30 this morning. The boy went off a ramp, went head over heels over the handlebars and the brake pad impaled his right side kidney area. He was flown to Childrens National Medical Center in DC. The injury was serious but non-life threatening. Officials say he was in critical but stable condition when he was transported. They say it took about an hour to get him stable. The brake pad was left in his kidney area, they safely removed the bike piece by piece. His name is not being released at this time, but his family was at the scene and has been notified. No word on his current condition.
