Just an update*********** Council has given staff until April 1st to develop a policy that would be effective in stopping land clearing (bulldozing) in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and compare it to a By-Law. Stakeholders will once again be involved in this process. However a By-Law that can be legally enforced is completed and can be implemented at any time with two weeks notice and a passing Council vote! If we see an influx in clearing or even minimal clearing in the next 6 months it will be evident that a By-Law will be the only option. As there is no longer any excuse to clear land! (You can bet all eyes will be watching) If those opposed to a By-Law truly believe that a policy will be effective there should be NO bulldozing happening in the Municipality over the next 6 months. If there is you can bet that there will be a push for a By-Law. THIS WILL BE THE TRUE TEST! The petition will continue as well as the awareness that a By-Law is in fact NOT that restrictive and does not effect 95% of the landowners in CK. There is only about 5% of landowners that are causing the destruction (shame on them). If they continue to do so and a By-Law is implemented they will have no-one to blame but themselves! At the end of the day this is about trying to make our community a better place to live and if a handful want to ruin if for their own personal gain then they speak volumes about themselves!
