Just an update to all the club members and families what our tentative schedule for the upcoming year will consist of. For November 16 th, we talked about having Lesley Hampson come to talk about lambing season preparation, etc. Its now short notice and Lesley wont be available at this time. I have a call out to another person but havent heard her availability, and this topic will now be at a later date . I will let everyone know when Nancy MIniter will be around to scan our sheep. She is quite accurate as todays technology has improved over the years. Even human ultrasound can be inaccurate at times. She does a great job. Hoping the kids get to wear the goggles and see what she sees!! very cool! She can estimate how many days gestation as well as number of lambs she can see, depend ending how far along the ewe is . She travels a lot of the country at this time of year. If this happens and you cant bring sheep, come, watch and learn! May be short notice so stay tuned!! Mike Wright has agreed to come and speak to the club about feeding programs and overall nutrition. He will let me know when he is available and we can plan a time for that very important topic. NAILE- North American International Livestock Exposition begins this week. Google it!! The Nations largest indoor sheep show! very impressive!! November 14-21. You can watch it on line . Fun to watch!! A lot of National shows are held there. big!! Last year Briannas showmanship class was divided by age. There were 27- 17 years olds in her class!! Such a great time!! Our holiday party will be Sunday December 7,2014. Time and Place …TBA. We discussed having a service project during part of that time. We are making fleece blankets for newborns and preemies for Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge MA Maternity dept. Please bring any amount of fleece fabric if possible. Joanns fabric has plenty to choose from. I have some extra to donate if some are unable to donate. Remember the pattern is for newborns! Holiday patterns are fine!! oh, please bring a dish to share!!…Pot Luck! On January 4, 2015, we will have a speaker on how to set up and present a visual presentation for 4H. Having these skills can help our kids in more ways in one to feel confident with public speaking in the future!! This will be at my home in Shirley. We need to prepare to present our VPs at county day this year!! There will be pizza!! Club visuals will be presented on February 1, 2015 @ 1245….to begin promptly at1:00 pm. This will take place at the old Shirley town hall on the common. I belong to a large sheep group from Worcester county, many of us from other counties though. I have been part of this for several years. There are several people that have a lot of knowledge about different topics that you all may be interested in. Since many of you have wool breeds…Shetlands, Romneys, Natural Color, Borders etc, I spoke to a woman who is interested in speaking to our club about wool. She would be able to teach us about processing wool, lanolin extraction, preparing wool and the Bay State Blanket project. Please let me know if there is interest in this….. we are a sheep club!! Zach had mentioned his interest in learning about the Sheep industry. I have had the privilege of attending the ASI (American Sheep Industry) annual convention for 4 consecutive years. We traveled to Tennessee, Nevada
