Just as quick as FSU fans like to note that we Canes fans live in - TopicsExpress

Just as quick as FSU fans like to note that we Canes fans live in the past, they like to note that most UM fans didnt go there. Have you all been to Tallahassee? Cause I have. A lot. With no disrespect to my friends who live there - and you all know I consider it a second or third home - but what else is there to do in Tallahassee, a city in the middle of nowhere? A city smaller in population than Hialeah. Imagine putting Hialeah in the middle of nowhere? Wouldnt HIaleah Park also be packed 6 Saturdays a year if everything is was closed and there were only 3 good restaurants, one of them being a Whataburger? Now imagine, living in Dade County in the 80s and 90s, and seeing Sapp and Jerome Brown and Testaverde and Michael Irvin and an endless list of stars being the center of college football. Imagine that, in a city and county where the only other sport in town is the Dolphins (who played in the same stadium). There was no Heat. There was no Marlins. Those franchises - and their 5 rings - came in 89 and 93, respectively. Canes had won 2 titles by the time the Heat came around, and 4 by the time the Marlins came around. Of course many people didnt go to UM, but it sure as shit doesnt mean they cant root for them. The Miami Hurricanes have been a sense of pride in this town for as long as I can remember. For as long Ive been going to games as a kid. Funny enough - many people who make these comments ended up going to another school for one reason or another despite growing up Canes fans. Maybe they didnt get in, tuition costs, course of study, etc. So yeah, lot of UM fans didnt go there. Lot of UM fans maybe didnt go to school at all. Lot of UM fans are assholes, and I wont speak for them because they aint my problem. But there are currently over 2.5M people living in Dade County. From Florida City to Aventura and from Miami Gardens to Key Biscayne, the school and its program have been a sense of pride in this town for as long as I can remember. Many of you who are now FSU fans maybe were orange and green in the 80s and 90s for those games. Who knows. So yeah, anything else you want to cling to? Best thing is to act like youve been here before. It is fleeting, and it does not very long. As soon as Squinty McRapeyCrab leaves for the NFL to join the likes of JaMarcus Russell or Ray Rice, things could change. Or they wont. I hope they dont, because I see the promise down here and the state and country need Miami/Florida State to both be strong again. Ebb and flow. Ups and downs. We all got a lot of life left in us, and weve seen dominance on both sides of the rivalry.
