Just as they can become emotionally attached to material things, people can get emotionally attached to dogmatic ideas and ideologies because of what they have been led to believe .... and WANT to believe .... those ideas and ideologies represent; even if those ideas and ideologies eventually outlive their practical usefulness because of changing circumstances ....... and even if the political idols, in whom they put their blind faith, engage in actions which, in practice, directly contradict the ideas and morals which those idols and their supporters claim to believe in. So many people, after putting their faith in someone, desperately want to believe that the object of their adoration is infallible and omniscient. It is always a foolish and dangerous thing to do but, collectively, human beings make the same mistakes ....... over and over again. No one is infallible. No one is omniscient. The belief that any hero, idol or political leader can be is a step toward accepting tyranny.
