Just back from ECMWs northern offshoot at Bradfield. Unfortunately due to other commitments and dodgy back I could only manage today, but it was very enjoyable. However it seems I missed the highlight of the weekend, when a dog disgraced itself in the Royal Hotel. One Saturday in Yorkshire, on a sunny afternoon The people had all gathered to enjoy a song and tune To drink the Farmers Bitter and to eat the famous pie Then a dog shat in the Royal Hotel, three miles from Bradfield high. It’s hard upon a landlord, when he wants to go to bed And his pub is full of folkies playing tunes, full steam ahead He can’t get them to stop and leave, no matter how he try Then the dog shat in the Royal Hotel, three miles from Bradfield high. They just ignore his little bell, they just ignore his pleas They keep on playing music, though he goes down on his knees They’d play on through the Crack of Doom, but now it’s true to say When the dog shat on the bar-room floor, they all left straight away. Now in Gundegai, Australia, a place of noted fame There’s a statue to a little dog who once did much the same But they’re sterner stuff in Yorkshire, and I’ll swear until I die They took that dog and put him in a special Royal pie.
