Just back from Selma. Some thoughts: 1) Its INTENSE. I took Alex, who is generally cool with PG13 movies, but she couldnt make it -- we ended up having to leave right before they marched across the bridge (well, she waited outside, and I got to when they crossed the bridge and met the troopers, and then followed her out). Ill have to go back to watch the rest (or buy the movie when its out on DVD). But they pull NO punches with this movie, so the police brutality is VERY real. I dont regret taking Alex, because hello, LIFE, but I also didnt force her to the end of it -- FYI, if youre planning on taking your kids. 2) I am now officially STUNNED that this movie wasnt nominated for an Oscar. I havent seen any of the other nominees, so I cant say with any knowledge that it wouldve won based on the competition, but good LORD, it shouldve been nominated. The actors were, without exception, BRILLIANT. 3) You need to see this movie. YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.
