Just back from a hot and sunny Poland for what will be our last - TopicsExpress

Just back from a hot and sunny Poland for what will be our last couple of months in the UK. One of the highlights of this most recent visit was an eventful tram journey through the streets of Wroclaw. I was with my daughter Kasia who had just played her violin in a concert when we hopped on a tram to get back to our side of the city. I should have picked up the warning signs, the fact that out of two carriages the front one was packed but the rear one was almost empty. The fact that in the rear carriage there were two hooded youths with scarves over their faces at each end of the carriage. The fact that the three passengers between them looked distinctly ill at ease. I registered all this a split second after the doors closed and the tram moved off, too late to do anything about it... Kasia and I looked at each other nervously and then I saw her eyes widen in horror as she took her first deep breath in the closed carriage. Someone, or more likely, some thing not of this earth had clearly had a major and involuntary bowel movement whilst riding in that rear carriage. The stench was incredible and as I surveyed my fellow passengers, including the shifty looking youths, it became clear that the scarves over their faces had in fact a very noble and essential purpose. As for the three other elderly passengers, we could only presume that one was probably the culprit and the other two had lost their sense of smell way back in the communist era. Kasia and I tried to breathe through our ears as best we could until the next stop when we quickly dived off and onto the front carriage, casting a pitying look at all the new passengers obliviously boarding the rear. We contemplated going back in and filming peoples reactions but without a portable oxygen supply we reckoned it probably wasnt worth the risk. When we finally disembarked, the rear carriage was occupied solely by one of the hooded youths who was now slumped in his seat fast asleep, (or more likely unconscious). We still wonder whether he made it... in both senses of the word...
