Just coming from a community meeting at McClymonds High School in West Oakland about plans to transform Mack, possibly into a charter school. Lots of emotion at the meeting, lots of community members, teachers, students, and even outsiders with interest in whats being planned for certain schools in the district. Folks where calling out the principal and OPS representatives about the plans and what has been going on for the last couple of years. Im only about dissenting opinions, but disrespect isnt productive for any discussion. How an Oakland Public High School has an enrollment of only 260 students is baffling. I only hope those in control have the students best interest at heart and really consider the desires of the people of West Oakland when making a decision. Bottomline, the students need more support, more resources, better classes, more qualified teachers, and programs that will help them succeed and be productive contributors to society. Good to see a lot of friends and folks in the building. One Oakland.
