Ive been a court transcriber for 23 years. The amount of work has increased (because desperate people do stupid things in a bad economy), but people are slower in paying because the cost of living just keeps going up while pay stays the same or goes down. It seems like everyone is hurting financially. I havent been able to increase my rates since 2008. Thats for sure. Ive been known to eat Ramen while people owe me thousands of dollars.
