Just declined a request to audition for a student film as a misfit - TopicsExpress

Just declined a request to audition for a student film as a misfit protagonist who touches himself in public when other acts of criminality are taking place, in order to un-nerve those committing them, like a sort of jerk-off vigilante. No reason was apparent in the script for such behaviour and OBVIOUSLY there was NO BUDGET to pay the actors. (Raising a budget to produce your own work is a key skill and one that aspiring artists must learn, sooner rather than later and if film schools are not making this sufficiently clear then they are doing their under graduates a dis-service.) In addition, a director who casts an actor in his film, even if they are a student, is that actors EMPLOYER, with all the legal and financial obligations and responsibilities that go with it. Assuming that actors are self employed and are desperate enough to always accept working for nothing, wont do. Ive been lucky to have worked with some marvellous young film makers, but wasnt feeling this one, and certainly not for free. So I politely declined. #getanotherwanker
