Just finished 5 Centimeters per Second Speechless...The movie - TopicsExpress

Just finished 5 Centimeters per Second Speechless...The movie is...superb. No amount of words will be enough for its description. The plot is deeply anchored in psychosocial realism, exactly why anyone could relate to the film. Also, I can say that this movie is the product of a good blending of classicism, William Wordsworths literary theory of romanticism, and Count Leo Tolstoys literary theory of Infectiousness. The elements that carried the sheer beauty of the film are the dialogues of the characters along with the shifting of the POV combined with the Japanese power of the moment. The power of the moment is a thing in Japanese literature that means highlighting one exact moment or stating what makes this moment different from the all the other moments that you have experienced. I guess this is rooted on the fact that will eventually die one day. Therefore, all of our moments are more beautiful than the ones weve previously had. The most common literary form to express that is the haiku, especially the works of Matsuo Basho. In the film, it was evident everywhere, from the title (The sakura petals fall at a rate of 5 centimeters per second at the time Tono and Akari watched the sakura petals fall), to the Japanese rocket program (in the Cosmonaut arc), to Tono who always thinks back to that moment when he and Akari spent time under the sakura tree, to Sumida who always wished for Tono to look at her the way she looked at Tono. Though, I want to question why the author used the term Cosmonaut instead of the universal Astronaut. Cosmonaut is a heavily Soviet term used to pertain to trained Soviets who would dare go up to space back in the space race in the 60s. These are some of the truths in life portrayed in the film. * Absence makes the heart grow fonder but too much absence can either make the heart wither with loneliness or make the heart long for another. * No matter how many relationships weve had or how many partners weve been with, there will always be that one person who will be forever etched in our minds and hearts and no amount of moving on will remove that person from us and that will make us think...What if we did have a real relationship?, What if our relationship worked out?, I wonder what my life would be now if I married him/ her....and the those kinds of thoughts will never disappear. * You could either keep looking back in the past and sulk or live on and keep moving forward, whether you end up happy or not or whether you find someone or not. In the end, it all depends on you and should there be any regrets, still, its all on you. Youll only be an ass if you scapegoat. * In the midst of your looking back, there will be that one person who would eventually fall for you, give you real love, and could give you a real relationship but you would fail to see him/ her because you are either too busy or too stupid looking back and eventually, that person will arrive at the realization that you will never look at him/ her the way you look at that special someone of yours that person will either move on or keep loving you despite that. * One sided love always hurts. Also, long distance relationships (LDR) almost always never work out. At least, not in the long run. No matter the justification or the sugar coating that you do, those facts cannot be denied. Thats about it. Sorry, boys and girls, but thats just the way it is. Life isnt a barrel of fun and laughter. Rather, its a miasma of pain and tears and your job is to find your own happiness in the midst of it all, in which, you should not find your own happiness but rather, you should let your own happiness come to you.
