Just finished reading the book Astoria by Peter Stark. It is a really good piece of historical non-fiction that tells the story of John Jacob Astors attempt at establishing a fur empire in the Pacific Northwest. If you love history like me, especially early Western US history then this book is a must read. The Lewis and Clark expedition is my historical obsession and I read everything I can on the topic. This story follows closely in their wake, but its a piece of history that is largely forgotten by most Americans. It fills me with so much pride to put myself into the early American frame of mind on the cusp of so much potential and greatness.
