Just finished watching August: Osage County. This is a very dark movie and better than the trailer shows you. The mother played by Meryl Streep is a deeply damaged individual. The father, played by Sam Shepard is a passive, melancholy man who lives deep in denial. What the movie brilliantly illustrates is the damage unconscious dysfunctional parents do to the generations that follow because they were to cowardly to deal with their shit. All characters are deeply tragic all sharing in a common and personal emotional hell. I am not usually a big Julia Roberts fan, but she is fantastic in her role. In fact everyone of the actors did an outstanding job. Meryl Streep is even better than her usual brilliance.
