Just finished watching the Sweeney Todd broadcast (its available - TopicsExpress

Just finished watching the Sweeney Todd broadcast (its available on PBS.org for the time being, so I was able to watch it on my TV using the PBS channel on Roku). There were many things I really enjoyed about this (including seeing so many of your smiling/blood-hungry faces) - but the whole thing reminds me of something that happened to me many years ago. I had worn out my LPs as a teenager, and when I was about 17, I remember getting a bootleg audio tape of the short-lived original London cast. I remember being so thrown when I got to Pretty Women - because, all those years of listening to it on the (studio) recording, it was so majestic - but, given *context* theres so much (else) happening. And to hear LAUGHTER, for the first time - had a great effect upon me... the realization (however simplistic it might seem to be now) that theatre and cast recordings are different things. Both wonderful, but different. Im not sure that I have a major point - other than Im glad that broadcasts like this are still happening and that musicals are still occasionally being produced with a real orchestra and real singers. I also think Philip Quast should move to New York and play all the roles in all the things.
