Just for fun, I thought I might transcribe portions of my journals - TopicsExpress

Just for fun, I thought I might transcribe portions of my journals through the years, leaving the spelling and bad grammar intact. Here are the first few entries. Maybe you will enjoy a peek into the mind of a typical American boy growing up in the 1980s: My Journal First attempt, mid-1983 at 10 years old. I had a second grade friend named Allen Beilke in my third grade class but unfortuneatly (sic) he was moved to another class. I turned 8 December 9, 1980. I invited Allen Beilke, Tony Alexander, Joseph Owens, Nathan Smith and Elden Wagner for my sleepover. A few weeks later, I had my talk with the bishop and was baptized into the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. On New Years Day 1981 we went out for breakfast again. On Valentines Day 1981 I gave my friend Joseph Owens 4 valentines and a box of raisins. I gave Ann Kuminez a valentine and a slip of paper that said, “hi, girlfriend.” Not very romantic, eh. I joined Judo and Soccer. My soccer team, West Ham United, won Every game! I had a passion for Hardy Boy mysteries and read as many as I could. I owned 10. Many things happened the summer of 1981. I went to Cub Camp for a week. On the fourth of July, I won a medal and a duffel bag in a contest. Friday the 31st of July was a big day for us. We woke up about 6 a.m. Our friends The Tamolas drove us to the airport. Some jerk had destroyed our car and that is why we were driven to the airport [in London, from whence we moved]. After we got settled on the plan I noticed a radio with holes for earphones. The earphones were too much so I just put my ear to the hole and listened that way. When we landed [in Washington State], Grandma and Grampa picked us up. Monday, September 7, 1981 marked a big change in my life. We moved to California. I turned 9 and invited my new friends, Donnie and Mark, for my sleepover. My fourth grade teacher’s name is Mrs. Salcedo. Granny and Grampa came over again. Grampa took me for walks in our desert. Mom had a baby we named Daniel James. [Resumed Sunday, January 19, 1986 at age 13.] My name is Cliff Davis. Clifford Davis Davis. I was born Saturday, December 9, at 6:55 p.m. I am the eldest child of five. Next in the line is my sister, Sherilynn Joy born in Cheyenne, Wyoming;my deceased brother Kevin – taken at age 2 months, born Sunday, August 8, 1976 at 7:56 a.m.; my brother Joe, born at Washington and Daniel, born in California. I was delivered by Doctor Hinckle at Memorial Hospital of Laramie County, Wyoming. At that time, we were living in Werry Housing, North First Street. Warren AFB. We moved to Cape Heart, Wyoming, after that. This house had a basement, and I remember looking out its window to look at the grass roots. For five years after I was born, we lived in Wyoming; then we moved to England, a few days after my sixth birthday. I have many memories from Wyoming – so if you want to read them go to page 2. If you are bored stiff --- close this book and rest your eyes. Behind our Cape Heart, Wyoming home was a large prairie field. This field carries many memories for me and my family. My father felt the gospel here. I crossed this field to get my first library book (the library was across it). I played there every day. Some things that happened here. I rode home with a stranger, sliced my foot open wading in a stream and got an ostrich stamp” for not listening in school. We moved when I was 6 to England. Written Friday, May 23, 1986: England: We reached our home in Feltwell, England sometime in Early December 1978. I remember in Feltwell, an old chestnut tree that we had fun playing under and a sandpit, by a bomb shelter. I really enjoyed playing with my little “digger dan” there [toy earth-mover]. We moved to Lakenheath after a while so Dad could be closer to his work. We toured Scotland, Wales and London while in England. California: I was 8 when we moved to George A.F.B. California. Despite the fact that it was situated on the Edge of the Mojave Desert, it was comfortable. Look on a California Map. Do you see San Bernardino [sic]? If you follow with your finger – North – you should see Victorville. We were right below it. California was neat! We visited Walt Disneyland a million time [not really] and even went to the beach. I had 4, 5 and 6th grades served at California. My best friend there was Scott Harlan. Other friends: Mark O’Brien and Donnie. My brother Daniel was born here. We moved in March, 1984 to Hawaii, on my sister’s birthday. In 1984 we moved to Hawaii (Hickam Air Base). I was 10. That is where we are living now. Oahu is the island we live on. Almost every day we could go to the beach if we wanted. It takes a while to get used to being 2000 miles from any continent. FACTS ABOUT ME IN HAWAII NOW I am 13. Our family has all the members we’ll ever have. I go to Armed Services Special Education and Training School. I am a typical adolescent (which means I like girls). My favorite radio station is K.K.U.A. light rock. I am in eighth grade. Today is Friday, May 23, 1986. I am on suspension from school for hitting my sister (who goes to the same school I do. She is a brat. (sometimes). [Sorry, sis – you know I love you!!] There are only two Girls in my class. Kekulani Sheldon (a brunette beauty who ignores me totally) and Mary Kate who I like. I got the nerve to pay her a compliment just two days ago: You look cute with your hair wet. Monday, Memorial Day, May 26, 1986. Today I found two frogs in the garden. I put them in a box with some wet grass and I am planning to let them go when it gets dark. We sold our three guinea pigs (ginnie, mr. ginnie and jr. ginnie).
