Just for your info:- ********************* A Goan Hindu Panchal Chari artisan [ Vishwakarma Panchal ] a great carver of Ivory was also carried to Lisbon. as carved ivory obje d`art were most sought after by the European Royals ,nobility and gentry. He was taken to Portugal in the mid 16th century. Hindu artists and painters were also very popular. In fact , most of the churches built in 16 th , 17th century in Goa , the jewellery ,bells, idols ,paintings ,wood carvings were done by Hindu Panchals/Artisans . Portuguese Viceroy Dom Juan de Castro got his own portrait made by one Hindu painter in the year 1547 ; this painting was in the Panjim palace until 1961 . In fact , the wife of one Viceroy Fransisco de Assissi [ 1752 ] writes to her son in Lisbon , ..aqui as obras de ouro ,em que trabalham excellentemente .. meaning , [ roughly translated ] here [in Goa ] excellent gold jewellery and other objects are made ... - {C,Castelo Branco,` Narcoticos II ,page 114 }. Most of the `GALVETAs` - boats of the Portuguese navy [ Arsenal de Marinha ] were built / made by the Hindu Charis = Carpenters . ` Santo Antonio de Tana ` [ Thana/Thane,near Mumbai ] a 9 cannon carrying gun boat was built by Goan Hindu Charis near Bassien / Vasai .The Portuguese navi`s ` Constructor Regio ` = the chief of gun boat building dept. was a Goan Hindu Chari one Kalyan Chari , in the year 1774 .After Kalyan`s retirement another Chari ,One Sadashiv Keshav Chari ,was the chief ! Both Kalyan And Sadashiv were paid 1200 silver coins ` Pardao` per year each . -a lot of money in 1774 .-
