Just found a couple of pictures of the old projection room of the Odeon Peterborough., now the Broadway. The projectors were a model called cinemeccanica. The big reels would hold 3 of the normal sized film reels which were spliced together at the beginning of the week and could play for 1 hour without the need to change projectors. These pictures were taken by Mike Jackson who was a projectionist at the cinema in those days. I think these were installed after a big refurbishment in the early 1960s. You may remember that the brown screen curtains were replaced with silver curtains with a ribbon pattern which formed small diamonds with reflective stones in them. The pink tinted lights from the front of the balcony picked these out really well. I think it was 1965 when the Sound of Music played for 10 weeks here.
