Just found out that my father, C.S.M Len Williams was mentioned in dispatches for his efforts at The first Battle of Monte Cassino on January 13th 1944 when the British X Corps attacked along the Garigliano river at the western end of the German Gustav Line. He was wounded soon after and sent to York to recover. There he met my Mum. Dad is the basis for my fictional character Bill Leonard, Len, the hero of my WW2 Novel series, the first in the planned series of 8 Cairo:Blood and Sand is out later this month.... piqwiq.co.uk/piqwiq-gerrard-williams-blood-and-sand.html
